About WJ Paterson
Thank you so much for visiting my website WJP Knits.
Scottish born and bred, I was first taught how to knit at the age of 5 years old. Hailing from the rural Scottish community of Aberdeenshire, knitting, is an integral part of the local lifestyle and culture. The area is also home to the renowned woolen mill, JC Rennie as well Johnsons of Elgin Cashmere and several small alpaca farms.
When I left school at the age of 18, I was very lucky to work as an apprentice at the prestigious knitwear studio of Val Whyte, where I grew my passion for high quality, made to order knitwear. I specialized in machine knitted fair isle design using both JC Rennie yarns and Jamieson of Shetland. Whilst working there, I also had the opportunity to knit a sweater for a member of the British royal family. Once my apprenticeship had finished, I continued to have a passion for all things textile related.
Moving forward to 2012, I started my own business via the government New Enterprise scheme. In December of that year, I won a business award via Livibility and was sponsored by RBS - "Outstanding Achievement in Business". Initially, I designed and produced velvet kimonos and was even headhunted by ASOS to design a range for them. in 2016 I made the bold step to move back to my roots with the knitting needles and follow my greatest passion of knitting.
When I'm not knitting, I enjoy taking moody black and white photos of rural Scotland so be sure to follow me in Instagram.
You can now find my work on Etsy, Ravelry and Love Knitting.
Knitting is wonderfully satisfying on a design/creative level as well as being amazing mindfulness and very relaxing. Be sure to join in on the knitting revolution and Happy Knitting to all!
